What’s In Your Mirror?
June 21, 2011 – 5:02 pmHave you ever looked in the mirror and saw lipstick on your cheek or something stuck in your hair, maybe lipstick on your teeth, but you walked away from the mirror without fixing it? Would you return later and be shocked to see those things still there?
Of course not, because most of us—probably all of us—would be quick to fix anything that seemingly disrupted our outer appearance. I mean, we do all have our reputations to consider, right? So why is it so easy to look in our “spiritual” mirror and see greed, envy, pride, fornication, idolatry, adultery, lust, unforgiveness, etc., yet turn and walk away like it’s not present. Is it because we think others cant see it too? Do we honestly believe our inner-man issues dont eventually affect our outer man? Well it does. Everything eventually comes full circle. Whats that old saying? “Whats done in the dark always comes to light.” Our sinful natures will slowly eat away at our joy, confidence, security, integrity, strength, etc and you will be left wondering how you got to the state you are in, as well as trying to figure out how to get out of it. Some may even seemingly be shocked by the results of prolonged sin in their life. One day you will look at yourself and wonder “where did that come from?”… when it was staring you in the face all along but you chose to ignore it. So instead of waiting until that sin or those sinful ways become too overwhelming, go ahead and address it now. Spend just as much time working on your inner-man appearance as you do your outward appearance. Every time you look in the mirror to check your face or your clothes, pause a moment longer to reflect on your inner man and ask yourself, “What needs adjusting in my heart, mind or spirit?” Once we begin making our inner-man appearance as much of a priority as our outer-man appearance, we will begin to see all areas of our lives shaping up. Psalm 139:23-24
