On the Road (Part VI)

June 27, 2011 – 8:57 am

5:30PM We are off the toll road and we have about five hours to go. Now we just need to find a gas station … one that’s not too far off the highway. Gas stations seem to be more scarce now that we’re no longer paying to use the highway. Imagine that. Soon enough we spot one and stop to refuel hopefully for the last time during this long and arduous trip.

6:00PM Getting a little nauseated again. I’m not really enthralled with the idea of eating more sunflower seeds. My dear sister digs through the many brown paper and reusable bags of food and finds almonds and tried fruit. That should settle my nausea for awhile at least. One more hour before we hit “the big city” and potentially traffic jams. The view is absolutely gorgeous; green and plush. Oh how I miss spring in the Midwest.

7:00PM I’m hungry again. The key to getting through this trip is constant high protein snacking. We are now entering the city and my husband is close behind in the truck. This is were things get kind of iffy. Depending on whether we are directed through the city or around. As it turns out we end up going through the city. The traffic isn’t too bad and so far there are no signs of traffic jams, but navigated through the city has many twist and turns. There are exists on both the left and right of the interstate so we stick to the middle lane.

7:30 We are officially out of the city and well on our way. We have less than three hours to go. At this point we’re all a little hungry. Seeds and nuts just aren’t cutting it anymore. So we pull out the cheese, hummus, and carrot sticks. Tasty and savory!
